August is National Women's Equality Month: Celebrate, Educate, and Take Action

August marks
National Women’s Equality Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the progress women have made toward equality and the continued efforts needed to ensure an future inclusive and equal for everyone. Celebrated throughout the month—and especially on August 26, Women’s Equality Day commemorates the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which granted American women the right to vote. This momentous milestone reminds us that while much has been achieved, the journey toward true equity continues.

Why Women's Equality Month Matters

Women’s Equality Month is more than a historical celebration. It’s a call to action. It shines a light on persistent gaps in pay, leadership, access to education, and economic opportunity for women. It reminds us that empowering women—especially from underserved communities - benefits families, communities, and society as a whole. According to Global Trends 2040 supporting women’s equality means building a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

How Can You Add Your Voice to the Movement?

There are countless ways to honor Women’s Equality Month and make a real impact in your community. Here are 6 powerful actions you can take:

1. Educate Yourself and Others

Learn about the history of women’s rights and the current challenges women face in the workplace, entrepreneurship, healthcare, and leadership. Share your knowledge with others through conversations, workshops, or events.

2. Support Women Entrepreneurs and Women-Owned Businesses

Shop local and invest in women-owned brands. Your support helps build stronger economies and opens doors for more women to step into business leadership roles.

3. Support Women Nonprofit Organizations

Volunteer your time or donate to nonprofits that empower women and girls through mentoring, education, women entrepreneur support and health programs. Every hour and every dollar makes a difference.

4. Take Social Media Action

Use your voice on social media to raise awareness. Share informative articles, statistics, and success stories. Highlight issues like the gender pay gap, representation in leadership, and access to education. Use hashtags like #WomensEqualityMonth, #SupportWomen, and #GenderEquality to join the conversation.

5. Mentor and Empower

Attend or support mentorship programs for women and girls. Whether you mentor someone directly or help fund mentorship programs, your involvement helps shape the next generation of women leaders.

6. Celebrate Women’s Contributions

Host or attend a movie night featuring women-led films, start a book club that features stories by or about women, or simply share stories of inspiring women in your community. Storytelling is a powerful way to celebrate and inspire.

Let's Build an Inclusive Community Together

Women’s Equality Month is not just about looking back—it’s about moving forward. Together, we can uplift women and girls by creating a culture of support, respect, and opportunity. Whether you’re mentoring, sharing on social media, or simply shopping at a woman-owned business, every action matters.

Stay healthy. Stay connected. Stay you.
