Making History Now: Building Our Future Together
As we leave February 2026, I find myself reflecting more deeply than usual. This Black History Month feels especially meaningful. This year the theme for Black History Month is “A Century of Black History Commemorations.”
One hundred years of intentional remembrance.
One hundred years of preserving stories.
One hundred years of honoring leadership, resilience, creativity, and advancement.
That is powerful.
As a mentor, and as someone who has had the privilege of walking beside so many women building businesses I keep coming back to this thought:
Commemoration isn’t just about looking back.
It’s also about recognizing what we are building right now and that we are building our future together.
History is not frozen in time. It is alive.
It is being written by women in our community every single day.
The Women Writing History Today
Everytime I hear a woman say, “I have an idea that could change my family’s future,”
I don’t just hear ambition. I hear legacy.
Every time a woman pushes past self-doubt to draft her business plan…
Every time she applies for funding…
Every time she opens her doors for the first time…
She is making history.
At C2 Your Health Women's Initiative Inc., we believe economic independence through entrepreneurship is not just business — it is leadership. It is identity. It is generational impact.
Our Shared Work Since 2019
When we launched our women-only entrepreneur mentoring program in 2019 — the first of its kind in Northern Indiana — we didn’t fully know how powerful the ripple effect would become.
We weren’t simply offering classes.
We were building leaders.
We were building confidence.
We were building economic pathways.
As of today more than 100 women have moved through our mentoring and certification programs and I am especially proud that 69% of our participants are women of color, women who are actively shifting narratives, closing wealth gaps, and strengthening our communities.
This is what modern commemoration looks like.
It looks like ownership.
It looks like certification.
It looks like confidence stepping into the role of CEO.
Your Story Is Part of the Century
To our current mentees, alumni and women entrpreneurs in our community, I want you to hear this clearly:
Do not underestimate the importance of what you are building.
When you create a sustainable business, you are doing more than generating income.
You are reshaping identity.
You are creating pride within your lineage.
You are modeling leadership for the next generation.
A century ago, people organized to preserve our stories. Today, you honor that legacy by making sure your business becomes part of the story. Entrepreneurship is one of the most powerful ways to claim space economically, socially, and historically. You are doing exactly that.
Finding the Circle You Can Trust
History isn’t just a collection of dates in a book; it is the result of what you build today. While the path of an entrepreneur is often walked alone, it shouldn't be. True growth happens when you find a mentor you can trust and a community that refuses to let you play small.
