64% Is Not Enough: Why Every Woman Entrepreneur Should Care About International Womens Day 2026
![]() |
You might be asking yourself, "What's up with International Women's Day? Why does it matter to me and my daughter?" I'm so glad you asked!
Let's talk for a moment, not just as women in business, but as women in the world.
Whether you've been building your dream for one year or thirty, you know the grind. You've poured everything into your brand, fought for every dollar of revenue, and shown up powerfully in rooms that weren't always designed to welcome you. But here's a question I want you to sit with: Has the way your community perceives women business owners ever been the thing that slowed you down the most? Not your skills. Not your work ethic. Not your vision but simply how the world sees you as a woman?
If you've ever felt that, I need you to know that's not just your story. That's a global story.
Because the same systems that create barriers for us in business are the very systems holding women back in courtrooms, in communities, and in countries all around the world. The same bias. The same imbalance. The same fight just wearing different faces.
And that is exactly why International Women's Day 2026 hits different this year.
This Affects Every Woman ... Including You
I want you to see yourself in this bigger picture, because this isn't just about women in other countries. This is about you and the women you know:
- The single mom trying to secure a small business loan
- The corporate professional passed over for a promotion with no legal recourse
- The woman who can't safely leave a bad situation because the law doesn't fully protect her
- The woman who is unable to connect to business resources because she is not seen as a "real business owner".
The United Nations isn't just asking us to celebrate women this March 8th they're asking us to rally. To stand up and demand equal rights and equal justice for every woman and girl on this planet.
And here's the number that stopped me in my tracks: women worldwide hold only 64% of the legal rights that men have. Let that sink in. In areas like work, money, property, safety, and even retirement — the law is not equal. Not anywhere. Not yet.
But What About Here at Home — in the United States?
You might be surprised to know that this isn't just a "somewhere else" problem. According to MS Magazine, the U.S. has only 88.9% of the legal frameworks in place to promote, enforce, and monitor gender equality, particularly when it comes to violence against women. That means there are still critical gaps in the very laws designed to protect us.
And when it comes to our paychecks? Women's earnings still average just 80 cents for every dollar a man makes a gap that has barely moved in over a decade. Not months. A decade.
Here's what may be the most startling truth of all: Women do not have equal rights with men under the United States Constitution. The Equal Rights Amendment has never been fully ratified. That means the most foundational legal document in this country does not explicitly guarantee equality based on sex.
As MS Magazine boldly stated "On Women's Rights, the U.S. Is Far From Number One."
So when we talk about fighting for equal rights and justice for all women and girls, we aren't just talking about women in other nations. We are talking about us right here, right now, in our own backyard.
As women entrepreneurs, we feel this. Whether it's fighting for equal access to funding, navigating systems that weren't built with us in mind, or simply not being taken as seriously as our male counterparts these aren't just personal frustrations. They are reflections of a much bigger, global reality.
Here's How You Can Show Up This Month
Mark your calendar and bring your community along:
📅 International Women's Day: March 8, 2026 🌍 UN Global Commemoration Event: March 9, 2026 at 10 a.m. New York time 📺 Watch it live or on demand because this is history happening in real time
This commemoration leads right into the Commission on the Status of Women (March 9–19), the United Nations' largest annual gathering focused on gender equality. Think of it as the world's most important boardroom conversation and women everywhere deserve a seat at that table.
👉 Get all the details and watch the livestream at the official UN page: un.org/en/observances/womens-day
When we advocate for equal rights, we are advocating for every version of ourselves. The girl who didn't have access. The woman who was told no. The entrepreneur who almost gave up.
This March, let's rally together. Let's raise our voices. Let's take action for ALL women and girls.
Because when women rise, we all rise. 💙
Stay healthy. Stay connected. Stay you.
