7 Ways to Increase Appreciation for Nurses and National Nurses Month

Hey there! Did you know that National Nurses Week was from May 6 to May 12, 2023, and now you are thinking, "Oh no I missed it"? Nope, you are good! "May is National Nurses Month too, which provides you with a month-long celebration to recognize the contributions and positive impact of America's 4 million registered nurses" according to the American Nurses Association.

Whether it's May or any other month of the year it's never too late to let nurses know you appreciate them. You always have the opportunity to celebrate and honor the incredible contributions of nurses worldwide.

Nurses are the backbone of healthcare and play a crucial role in the well-being of patients. They work tirelessly to provide our communities with the tools they need to live a happy and healthy life and we cannot thank them enough for their dedication and hard work.

Here are some suggestions on how to continue to increase awareness of National Nurses Week and show a nurse you know you appreciate them throughout the year:

  1. Create a social media campaign highlighting nurses' importance and encouraging followers to use hashtags such as #nationalnursesweek #nationalnursesmonth or #thankanurse to show their appreciation.
  2. Show the nursing profession and a nurse friend appreciation by helping yourself stay well, live a healthy lifestyle, and take responsibility for your health.
  3. Demonstrate patience and understanding for nurses. Nurses not only care for your physical body but also advocate for you when interacting with the healthcare system during a very stressful time for you and your family.
  4. Send a thank you note. This may seem insignificant, however just saying these two words can make a huge difference in their day, or even their career.
  5. Why not reach out to local schools, community centers, and community events to educate them about the role of nurses in health care> You could host an event such as a community health fair with nurses in attendance.  Or contact a local nursing program, and suggest this idea.
  6. Host a small event in your home, featuring a nurse friend, teaching health and well-being tips, sharing healthy recipes, and suggested health screenings.
  7. Finally, you could host a networking event inviting members of your community together, nurses from different specialties, and health care organizations. This provides the opportunity to connect, share knowledge and ideas and build professional relationships.
By continuing to raise awareness of National Nurses Week throughout the year, we can show our appreciation and support for nurses who work tirelessly to provide the best possible care for patients in the hospital and our families in the community. Let's work together to recognize, honor, and celebrate the contributions of nurses every day!

Stay healthy. Stay connected. Stay you.
