South Bend, Indiana November 11, 2022: C2 Your Health Women’s Initiative Inc. requested a special resolution by the South Bend Common Council and the Mayor James Mueller of the City of South Bend to join this global movement to proclaim November 19th as Women’s Entrepreneurship Day which will take place at on Monday, November 14, 2022 during the South Bend Common Council Meeting at 7pm County-City Building, 227 West Jefferson Boulevard South Bend. The Common Council meeting is open to the community, all are invited to attend this historic moment for the women-owned businesses in South Bend, Indiana.
Women’s Entrepreneurship Day was launched in New York in
2014, is an international
movement to recognize and promote the advancement of women
entrepreneurs, support women in business by encouraging women leaders,
innovators and entrepreneurs to initiate startups, drive
economic expansion, eradicating poverty and advance the South Bend’s
community.
Women’s Entrepreneurship Day is an
opportunity to spotlight and honor the critical role women-owned businesses
play in strengthening our local economy and recognize the need for inclusive
economic growth which typically excluded populations like women and communities of
color.
In Indiana, according to the U.S. Small
Business Administration 2021 report women made up 47.3 percent of the workers
and owned (187,915) 42.4 percent of businesses across the state; and according
to the most recent United States Census reported in July 2021, 11.8 percent
(690) of business in St. Joseph County and 12 percent (239) of businesses in
South Bend were women-owned.
“It's important to note there is a huge
gap between 47% which is the percentage of women owned businesses in reported
in Indiana and 12% in South Bend. Entrepreur.com reported that 70% of women
entrepreneurs fail. After researching why this might be we found the four main
reasons for this failure reported over and over is because women entrepreneurs
lack of role models, lack of resources, and experience lack of confidence. This
where we aim to make a difference.” says Cindy Cohen, Founder of C2 Your Health
Women’s Initiative Inc.
Women’s Entrepreneurship Day is important to South Bend
because the barriers for women owned business especially minority, women-owned
businesses, remain real. Women’s Entrepreneurship Day celebrates, honors
and empowers women and girls to be active participants in our South Bend
economy and to build a network of women leaders ensuring inclusive
economic growth that typically excludes populations like women and communities
of color helping to eradicate poverty in South Bend.
