The wegg® Guide to Resources and Helpful Reads on the Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Who isn’t caught up in the fury of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19)?  What a time we are in for everyone – no one is isolated from this threat but working together, we will get through it. Recent marching orders are to stay home as much as possible, avoid large crowds and keep a 3- to 6-foot distance between yourself and others when you go out. Tough rules to follow but it can be done with discipline and foresight.
Since many of you are now working from home, we’ve assembled a couple of good resources and helpful reads to keep you informed, plan ahead and stay calm on anything related to COVID-19.  Here goes.
  1. Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University – I’ve been tracking this since the end of December, 2019; it shows the COVID-19 spread in real-time on an interactive dashboard with data available for download. JHU is also modeling the spread of the virus. Preliminary study results are discussed on their blog.
  2. Why the coronavirus is a very good thing for small businesses – I agree that after the COVID-19 is under control and we have established a vaccine (or antiviral) for it, “the markets, and the economy, will have recovered. And many of us who run businesses will be smarter – much smarter – because of the 2020 coronavirus experience,” says Gene Marks, founder of The Marks Group, a small-business consulting firm. He frequently appears on CNBC, Fox Business and MSNBC.  How so?  Read the hyperlinked article to find out.
  3. 15 ways to practice self-care in the time of coronavirus – it’s easy to start getting filled with anxiety when you’re cooped up. So what can you do to stay sane while keeping yourself and others safe during the virus outbreak? Here are a couple suggestions about how to stay occupied.
  4. Don’t Panic: The comprehensive Ars Technica guide to the coronavirus – from how worried should you be to what is COVID-19, to what are the symptoms and how long does it last?  All of these questions and more are addressed in the comprehensive article.  Oh, and throughout it all, don’t forget to wash your hands, cover your cough (if you get one), take care of yourself, and keep alert to the information that is provided (like this blog post).
  5. Communicating through the coronavirus – this is most certainly the time to stay alert and inform your family, colleagues, employees, suppliers and anyone else who is closely tied to you personally and professionally to understand what is going on.  If you run a business, demystify the situation for employees and independent contractors, put everyone’s mind at ease, and provide hope for the future.
