Tonight Let's Join Oprah, the Dialog, Pay Attention, Speak Up #BlackLivesMatter

It is time for understanding and perspective. There is so much in this world I don't understand and this is one of them. It feels so crazy that the day has come when corporations like Pet Smart feel the need to come out with statement after statement of communications saying “We care, you matter to me” right next to a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. or the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter. Didn't they already, care?

It is easy to brush it aside, ignore our black community’s outcry’s just like we always have.It is easy to think, “this has nothing to do with me” for one reason or another. But it does. It has everything to do with how we see and feel about ourselves individually and as a country. Racism impacts every one of us, as we have seen on TV over and over again this week, it’s killing many of us yes, but really mostly people black people.  If you did not know that before, you definitely know now. So what’s next?

If you are unclear as to what is happening here listen to inspiring powerful talk Megan Ming Francis recorded this TEDx Let's Get to the Root of Racial Injustice she presented at WDS 2020 conference and the article Yes, Black Lives Matter, Committed to Change: Through Words and Action.

It is time for understanding and perspective. It is time to stand together in solidarity, all people need to speak up, say something, do something, give something (you time your money) to support equal social justice for black men, and women in our country and do whatever you can. If one part of our community is suffering, then the rest of us need to pay attention and lend a hand, even if your help feels small compared to the challenges ahead.

It is important to continue to share stories of how we got here, to focus on social change from those who are moving our community forward towards social change.

It is time for understanding and perspective. A good place to start is by becoming educated in what is happening now, and what to do next to create lasting social change we so desperately need every city in our country. We encourage you to learn with us starting tonight by watching OWN Spotlight: Where do we go from here?
“In response to the continuing civil unrest in America following the tragic murder of George Floyd, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced a two-night special, OWN Spotlight: Where Do We Go From Here?, that will simulcast on OWN and across all of Discovery’s 18 other U.S. networks on Tuesday, June 9 (part 1) and Wednesday, June 10 (part 2) at 9|8c both nights.

It will also stream for free on the Watch OWN and Discovery Family TVE apps, as well as OWN’s YoutubeFacebook and Instagram channels and be available on Discovery’s global platforms in more than 200 countries and territories.

The special features Oprah Winfrey as she speaks directly with a range of Black thought leaders, activists and artists about systemic racism and the current state of America. The in-depth conversations offer insight and tangible plans to answer the questions “What matters now?” “What matters next?” and “Where do we go from here?.”

It is time to speak up, we can do better, we must do better. Together.
