National Women Support Women Day is December 1st - I'm in!
(This photo is from an Instagram post July 2020, then referred to in the article New York Times, "Challenge Accepted")
Each month I look for a list of the National Observances to see if there is a "National Day" set aside for wellness, mental health, well-being and awareness of women's issues for lack of a better word, "issues" may not the best word but it will do in this situation.
Anyways, I found December 1 is "Women Support Women Day", then got business looking for a nice quote that goes with the theme of women supporting women. I found the hashtags #womensupportingwomen next to #challengeaccepted. I thought this looks interesting, so I kept searching for the meaning of these two hashtags until I felt satisfied with the answer to the question what is National Women Support Women Day and the hashtag #womensupportingwomen all about?
I like to reference the National Today website for information such as this. They are always spot on national observances. Here's what they had to say ...
"National Women Support Women Day is celebrated on December 1 every year. This day allows us all to join together and build upon previous generations’ hard work and determination. “Women for women” is a powerful clichĆ©, but this day is an opportunity that should not be missed. Whether you believe in having a day to focus on only women in the world or that gender should have no limits, you should use this day and make the most of it. If you want to help other women in your life, use this day to let them know you’ll be there for them even when others don’t."
I started to see a pattern emerge. These two hashtags being used in tandem #challengeaccepted #womensupportingwomen. Humm interesting.
After a bit of sleuthing, I came upon these two articles that seem to cover the topic pretty well. There seems to a consensus of lack of clarity when these two hashtags began to appear together however, we do know in the summer of 2020 they just blew up Instagram with over 3 million "likes" or so they say.
In the article What is 'Challenge Accepted' Exactly? (published July 20200 had this to say …
"According to the informal tenets of social media, however, the word challenge typically means “posting a photo of yourself in a certain context, oftentimes for an ostensibly good cause, ideally looking attractive." The article went on to say ..."and this week’s "WomenSupportingWomen #ChallengeAccepted challenge, which appears to ask women to post a flattering black-and-white selfie from their camera rolls."
In the article Challenge Accepted Why are Women Posting Black and White Selfies (published July 2020) explains
I love this idea and the two
hashtags together, so I say in honor of December 1. 2022 let's see what we can
do with this challenge in 2022.
Besides if it's good enough for
Khloe Kardashian then it's certainly good enough for me! Count me in!
